Pimenta reveals Manchester City gave her no leverage as she opens up on Haaland's mindset

Erling Haaland's agent Rafaela Pimenta has described Manchester City as the most difficult club she has ever negotiated with.

Pimenta revealed that their organisational strength and self-sufficiency left her with no room to apply the pressures that typically give agents influence in transfer talks.

Speaking to ESPN, Pimenta reflected on the negotiations that led to Haaland signing a contract extension earlier this year that runs until 2034 โ€” a deal that also removed the release clauses that had previously offered rival clubs a theoretical route to signing the Norwegian.

"They are very serious, very organised. They are very big. They know what they are doing, they have a lot of experience. They don't really need anything โ€” they have everything. So we don't have any leverage."

The remarks are striking in the context of a summer in which multiple clubs had been credited with interest in Haaland, Barcelona among the most persistent. Pimenta firmly dismissed those rumours in March, calling them baseless, and the new contract has significantly complicated any future approach. The release clauses that previously gave Real Madrid and others a defined path have now been removed.

Haaland has scored 36 goals and registered seven assists in 49 appearances this season, continuing to produce at the extraordinary rate that has defined his four years in Manchester. He has now scored 160 goals in 195 appearances for City in all competitions since his ยฃ51 million arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

Pimenta offered an insight into the mentality that underpins that output, pushing back against any perception that elite footballers lead uncomplicated lives.

"He's a lot like us in his way of being โ€” very informal, very comfortable, very relaxed, very low profile. Football, for him, is the most serious game you can play. I think people often have the impression that a football player's job is easier than it actually is. High-performance football players have to be very intelligent โ€” don't underestimate the intelligence of those at the top of the pyramid."

Pimenta also negotiated Phil Foden's recent contract extension at Manchester City, suggesting her relationship with the club has evolved from adversary to regular counterpart. She also offered a view on the summer market, predicting significant movement at Liverpool following Mohamed Salah's departure and noting that Ajax were already deep into a rebuilding process.

City face Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday in what is likely to be the decisive match in the Premier League title race.
