Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Porto winger William Gomes, whose new contract until 2031 includes a €100 million release clause after his impressive start to the season.

The Brazilian has emerged as a potential solution to Liverpool's need for a natural right-sided attacker following Mohamed Salah's departure during the summer.

According to A Bola, Liverpool have maintained their interest in the 20-year-old, who offers a different profile from the wide players recruited in the most recent transfer window.

Bradley Barcola and Víctor Muñoz are more comfortable operating from the left, while Gomes is a natural right winger. His ability to provide width on that side has consequently made him an attractive option as Liverpool assess their attacking requirements for future transfer windows.

Gomes joined Porto from São Paulo and gradually established himself after arriving in Portugal. Having contributed to the club's success last season, he has enjoyed a more prominent role under Francesco Farioli during the opening weeks of the current campaign.

His early-season numbers underline that progress. Gomes has recorded two goals and two assists in his first nine appearances of the 2026-27 campaign, providing a combination of attacking output and versatility that has strengthened his reputation.

Porto have responded by securing his future on improved terms. The winger has signed a new contract running until June 2031, extending his previous agreement and increasing his release clause from €80 million to €100 million.

The revised terms give the Portuguese champions greater protection against potential approaches from abroad. They also reflect the club's confidence that Gomes can continue developing into an important member of the first team.

Liverpool are not alone in following his progress. Atlético Madrid have also been linked with the Brazilian, while interest from other leading European clubs could develop if his performances continue to improve.

Porto are in a strong negotiating position after agreeing the new deal, and the release clause represents a substantial obstacle for any interested club. Reports have suggested that a lower fee, potentially around €60 million, could be discussed if Gomes himself sought a move, although there is no confirmed agreement to sell him at that price.

The winger's contract renewal also demonstrates Porto's determination to retain control of his future rather than allow his growing profile to weaken their position in negotiations.

For Liverpool, Gomes would represent a possible longer-term answer to the vacancy on the right side of their attack. However, with the player tied down until 2031 and Porto having strengthened their contractual protection, any pursuit is likely to require significant financial commitment.

His development in Portugal will therefore be worth monitoring as Liverpool consider their options ahead of the next transfer windows.
