The 26-year-old Portugal winger has been with AC Milan since arriving from Lille in 2019 and has made 291 appearances across all competitions, contributing 80 goals and 65 assists.
He has been one of the most gifted attacking players in Serie A across that period but has endured a difficult final season — managing 10 goals and three assists in 31 appearances — and public frustration with his inconsistency grew significantly in the final months of the campaign.
Leão was direct about his intentions.
"Personally, I have given everything at AC Milan. It is a club that has helped me grow a lot and supported me through difficult times. Luckily I managed to leave my mark on their history. Everyone has ambitions and I dream of a new challenge in a new league. If it happens, I will be very happy and satisfied, because I did my job at AC Milan."
When pressed on whether he preferred England, Spain or Saudi Arabia, Leão declined to specify, pointing to the World Cup as his immediate focus.
"The most important thing right now is the World Cup and helping the national team in every way I can. When the time comes, I will look at the best options to continue my career and continue competing at the top of European football."
Manchester United have been consistently linked with Leão as a summer target, and a possible swap deal involving Joshua Zirkzee has been mooted in Italian media. Al-Hilal also entered the picture earlier in the season, though Leão's stated desire to stay in European football appears to rule out Saudi Arabia for now.
Milan's asking price has been reported at around €50 million, a figure below what the club paid for him and reflective of a difficult final year. His contract runs until 2028.
The arrival of Massimiliano Allegri's replacement as head coach will also be a factor. Leão has indicated he wants to play in a system that values his qualities as a wide forward who can cut inside, a profile that suits an attacking system rather than the structured approach of the season just ended.
