Juventus push for Villa keeper Martinez as Massara talks also advance

Juventus are continuing their pursuit of Emiliano "Dibu" Martinez as they look to solve their goalkeeping puzzle, with Sky Sport reporting fresh contacts in the last few hours as the club tries to push the deal forward.

The Argentina and Aston Villa shot-stopper remains the Bianconeri's top target between the posts, sitting at the very top of chief executive Giovanni Carnevali's list as he looks to hand Luciano Spalletti's side an experienced, charismatic new number one.

Personal terms are understood to be broadly agreed, with the 33-year-old willing to take a pay cut on his current Aston Villa deal to move to Serie A, but the two clubs remain some way apart on a fee, with Villa said to be holding out for around €10m against a Juventus offer closer to €5-6m.

Should the Martinez pursuit fall through, Juventus already have a fallback option lined up in Guglielmo Vicario, the Tottenham goalkeeper who is available this summer and represents the club's plan B. Vicario is reportedly seeking a salary of around €4m a season, a rise on his current Premier League terms, though talks with his camp remain open.

The goalkeeper search comes as Juventus also push forward with changes in the boardroom. According to the same Sky Sport report, the club are exploring the idea of adding a technical director to the club's staff, with former AS Roma sporting director Frédéric Massara emerging as the name under consideration.

Massara left his post in the capital at the end of last season, and contacts between the two parties have already begun.

The Frenchman previously worked at Milan before his spell at Roma, and is seen as someone capable of bridging scouting, the dressing room and the coaching staff — exactly the profile Juventus feel they are missing as they continue reshaping the club's management structure around Carnevali following his own arrival.

Nothing is imminent on either front, but both situations point to a summer of significant change at Juventus, both on the pitch and in the corridors of power at the Continassa.
