Juventus are already looking at two different solutions for the left-back position, with David Raum being considered for next summer and Rayan Aït-Nouri emerging as a possible January target.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus have identified Raum as an option for a free transfer when his RB Leipzig contract expires. The Germany international has also attracted interest from England, while the Italian club are understood to have a good relationship with his representatives.
Leipzig are attempting to prevent that situation from developing. The club have confirmed that they want to extend the contract of their captain, whose current agreement runs until next summer.
Raum himself has not closed the door on leaving. The 28-year-old recently acknowledged that enquiries from other clubs had arrived as his future remained unresolved.
Juventus are therefore monitoring the situation with a longer-term move in mind, but the club also want a solution for the position sooner.
That has brought Aït-Nouri into the picture.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Juventus are considering a loan for the Manchester City defender in January, having already explored the possibility of signing him during the summer.
The Algerian has struggled for regular Premier League opportunities since moving to City. According to the report, his only appearance this season has come in the EFL Cup, while he remained an unused substitute for the club's other six matches.
A January loan could consequently give Juventus an immediate option while leaving the longer-term search for a left-back open.
The club's thinking is also influenced by Juan Cabal's situation. Should Aït-Nouri arrive, the Colombian could become a departure candidate, particularly with Juventus needing greater balance across the two full-back positions.
The two targets therefore represent different stages of the same recruitment problem.
Aït-Nouri would provide a possible short-term solution in January, while Raum would offer Juventus an opportunity to add an established Germany international without paying a transfer fee next summer if he leaves Leipzig when his contract expires.
For now, neither deal is close. Juventus are monitoring both players while Leipzig continue their efforts to retain Raum and Manchester City assess Aït-Nouri's role.
