The 25-year-old Netherlands international only joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025, arriving for a reported โฌ40 million fee as the club sought a successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold following his departure for Real Madrid.
However, his time on Merseyside has been disrupted by injuries and inconsistent form, and reports from Saudi Arabia suggest intermediaries have now proposed him to Al-Hilal as a potential signing.
According to WinWin, Frimpong is open to the possibility of beginning a new chapter in the Saudi Pro League. The report describes an approach through intermediaries rather than an agreement between the clubs, and there is no indication that Liverpool have accepted an offer or entered formal negotiations.
Frimpong arrived in England with an impressive record from his spell in Germany. He scored 23 goals in 133 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen, helping the club win the league and DFB-Pokal double in the 2023-24 season, as well as the DFL-Supercup.
His first campaign at Liverpool, though, was interrupted by fitness problems. He made 35 appearances in all competitions, including 21 Premier League outings, but did not score in the league. His two goals came in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace and the FA Cup.
A fresh muscular injury suffered against Brentford on October 17 has further disrupted his progress. Frimpong came on at half-time during Liverpool's 2-1 victory but was forced off again after sustaining the problem.
The defender has also struggled to establish himself in the Netherlands set-up, having collected 15 senior caps. His fitness issues have limited his involvement during the current international period.
Despite the uncertainty, Frimpong remains under contract at Anfield until the summer of 2030. Liverpool therefore retain control of his future, and any move would require the club to consider the terms of a potential offer.
For Al-Hilal, the opportunity to recruit a dynamic attacking full-back with experience at the highest level could prove attractive. For Frimpong, a move to Saudi Arabia would represent a significant change of direction only 18 months after arriving in the Premier League.
