Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti's pursuit of Davide Frattesi has run into an immediate obstacle after Internazionale responded to the approach by demanding a straight swap for Andrea Cambiaso.

According to Tuttosport, direct contact between all parties has already taken place. Spalletti worked extensively with Frattesi during his time as Italy national team head coach and is keen to reunite with the 26-year-old midfielder regardless of whether Juventus qualify for the Champions League or settle for Europa League football next season.

Frattesi has been available for the right price for the best part of a year. He grew dissatisfied with a bit-part role under both Simone Inzaghi and Cristian Chivu, and came close to joining Nottingham Forest in January โ€” a deal that collapsed when Liverpool blocked Curtis Jones from moving to Inter as part of the arrangement.

Inter Milan value Frattesi at a minimum of โ‚ฌ30 million, but rather than accept cash they countered Juventus' approach by proposing Cambiaso โ€” valued at a similar figure โ€” move in the opposite direction with no additional fee changing hands. Juventus rejected the concept.

The two clubs remain far apart. Inter are also understood to demand a premium from Juventus specifically because they are a direct Serie A rival โ€” the same stance they took in January โ€” and are reportedly more willing to deal with Galatasaray on more straightforward terms. Frattesi's preferred destination remains Roma, the club where he developed and spent time on loan, though the Giallorossi have not yet made a formal approach.

Frattesi has made 21 appearances this season with five goals. His contract with Inter runs to summer 2028.

Cambiaso, also 26, is tied to Juventus until 2029 and has attracted separate interest from Como.
