The 21-year-old joined the National League club on loan in July and quickly became an important part of their unbeaten start to the campaign. He started 11 league matches and also made two appearances in the National League Cup.
Boreham Wood confirmed on October 22 that Gunter had been recalled by Tottenham, bringing his spell in Hertfordshire to an early end.
His return was prompted by an injury to Spurs' third-choice goalkeeper Brandon Austin, with Gunter brought back to train alongside the first team.
However, he is expected to remain around the senior squad before considering his next move when the January transfer window opens.
Gunter's departure from Boreham Wood was a setback for the National League leaders, who had benefited from his performances during the opening months of the season.
His spell also provided valuable senior experience for a goalkeeper who remains part of Tottenham's academy pathway.
Gunter is not the only young player at the club whose future could be decided during the winter window. Midfielder Tyrese Hall is expected to attract interest, with both loan and permanent options potentially available.
Under-21 captain James Rowswell could also seek a temporary move after failing to secure a switch during the summer.
Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi has shown a greater willingness to involve academy players in recent weeks as the team's results have improved.
He handed 18-year-old Luca Williams-Barnett his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace, while other young players, including Tye Hall and Callum Olusesi, have also been involved in first-team preparations.
Gunter will now have the opportunity to train with the senior squad before deciding where his next opportunity lies. A further loan move in January would allow him to continue building the experience he gained at Boreham Wood.
