Gueye future unclear as wife's packing post fuels Everton exit talk

Idrissa Gana Gueye's future at Everton has been thrown into fresh uncertainty after his wife's social media activity sparked speculation that the out-of-contract midfielder could be preparing to leave the club.

Pauline Gueye posted to her Instagram Stories showing stacked moving boxes, writing that she had been "busy packing" following a period of absence from the platform.

The post prompted immediate reaction among Everton supporters, with many interpreting it as a sign that the Gueyes are preparing to leave the area for good.

Gueye, 36, has been with Senegal at the World Cup, where they beat Iraq 5-0 to advance to the knockout rounds. His contract with Everton expires at the end of June, and his future at the club remains unresolved with days left on his current deal.

Everton announced on June 10 that they remained in discussions with the midfielder's representatives over his future.

A club statement read: "The club is continuing to liaise with representatives of Idrissa Gana Gueye over his future, with the midfielder's existing deal expiring at the end of June."

Manager David Moyes is understood to be keen on signing a new central midfielder this summer regardless of Gueye's decision, with Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney among the targets being considered.

The social media post proves nothing in isolation โ€” a house move need not mean a departure from the club โ€” but with his contract expiring imminently and no extension confirmed, the timing has done little to dampen speculation among a fanbase already anxious about his status.

For Everton, the uncertainty surrounding such an experienced player is an unwelcome distraction as they plan for the season ahead. A swift resolution โ€” in either direction โ€” would benefit all parties given the proximity of pre-season.
