Getafe have officially completed the signing of Jean-Yves Valou. The young Ivorian centre-back arrives from Villarreal, who have agreed a loan deal with the Madrid club running until the end of the season with no option to buy.

The defender, who had already been on Getafe's radar back in January, has finally arrived, and will now begin pre-season with the rest of his new team-mates under Jose Bordalas.

He joins Djene, Abdel Abqar, Zaid Romero and Juan Berrocal in a crowded central defensive department, though the former Sevilla and Eibar man is among those expected to leave the club this summer.

Valou, 20, made 28 appearances for Villarreal B this past season, scoring three goals and playing an important role in David Albelda's side, having earned his first taste of first-team football with an appearance in the Copa del Rey.

Standing at 1.88m, he is a left-footed centre-back known for his physical presence, aerial ability and defensive solidity, and he is also comfortable filling in at left-back when required. Having completed his development in Villarreal's academy, he now takes on a new challenge in his career wearing the Getafe shirt, with the loan giving him the chance to gain regular top-flight experience before a possible return to the Ceramica.

Villarreal renewed Valou's contract in January, tying him to the club until 2030, underlining their long-term confidence in the defender even as they send him out on loan to continue his development.

With no option to buy included in the deal, Getafe will only have Valou's services for the coming season, after which he is due to return to Villarreal, who are hopeful he can eventually establish himself as part of their first-team plans.

For Bordalas, known for developing young defenders and demanding a high level of competitiveness, the move offers Valou an environment well suited to accelerating his progress in a season that will be his first extended taste of senior football away from Villarreal.
