The Valencia captain was honoured by the Asociación del pequeño accionista and used the occasion to assess the club's difficult start, the arrival of Javier Aguirre and his own future at Mestalla.
Gayà said he is feeling good personally despite the team's current position and believes Valencia can improve.
“The truth is that I am very well, in a good moment now, after this start, I am finding myself well and I have good feelings,” Gayà said. “In a career there are more difficult moments, easier moments, when things go well and others don't, but things are going to start going even better and I am sure we are going to look forward.”
The defender also welcomed Aguirre's appointment as Valencia's new head coach, highlighting the Mexican's experience in La Liga.
“We are very well with Aguirre, he has been very demanding from the first day with the training sessions and he is also a coach with a lot of experience,” Gayà said. “The other day I was looking back and he has almost 500 matches in the league, he knows the competition very well and that is very important.”
Valencia's immediate priority is their first match at El Sardinero, where Gayà expects the squad to respond.
“We are looking forward to facing the first match at El Sardinero, I am convinced that we are going to move forward, it is a special match and we are going for them,” he said.
Gayà's contract remains another unresolved issue. He confirmed there has been no new discussion, despite sporting director Braulio Vázquez recently addressing the subject.
“Of course I would like to, obviously,” Gayà said when asked about renewing. “At the moment there has been no conversation, right now the most important thing is the team, that we are all focused on getting out of the relegation zone.”
He repeated that message when asked about the first approach from Ron Gourlay, saying the focus must remain on Valencia's position.
Gayà also revealed he is looking forward to the Copa del Rey meeting with Tavernes, which is close to his home.
“My brother told me and I am very happy because it is very close to home,” he said. “There are a lot of Valencia people in Tavernes and it is going to be a special match.”
For now, Gayà's future remains unresolved, but the captain has made his priorities clear: helping Valencia escape danger comes before negotiations over his next contract.
