Aarón Mayol has seen his market value rise from €50,000 to €5m after his breakthrough at Valencia, giving the club another academy asset to protect.

The 18-year-old midfielder has made a rapid jump since arriving from Levante and was handed his senior debut by Óscar Sánchez during his brief spell in charge.

Mayol started both of Sánchez’s matches and impressed immediately. He was among Valencia’s best players in the victory over Alavés before producing another eye-catching display against Real Sociedad, scoring a superb goal and providing an assist despite the eventual 3-2 defeat.

His performances have also caught the attention of Javier Aguirre, who has seen the youngster’s emergence as Valencia continue to deal with a difficult campaign.

The latest Transfermarkt update has now reflected Mayol’s rise. His valuation has increased one hundredfold, from €50,000 to €5m, making him the biggest percentage riser in La Liga by a considerable margin.

Valencia had already renewed Mayol’s contract this summer despite the midfielder not having made his first-team debut at the time. His sudden emergence has now changed his standing within the squad and increased the importance of protecting his long-term future.

The club currently have the player protected by a €15m release clause. However, that figure would rise to €30m if Mayol is given a first-team contract, meaning Valencia could gain greater protection by formalising his new status.

Mayol initially joined Valencia’s youth setup from Levante and has progressed quickly since making the move. His first senior opportunities have now accelerated his development, with his performances suggesting he could remain part of Aguirre’s plans.

For Valencia, the immediate challenge is ensuring Mayol’s rapid rise does not leave them exposed in the transfer market. His valuation has increased dramatically in a matter of months, while his release clause remains considerably below the latest market assessment.

The midfielder’s emergence provides Valencia with one of the more encouraging developments of the season. After making an impact almost immediately at senior level, Mayol now has the opportunity to establish himself as a regular part of the first-team picture.

His next contract decision could therefore prove significant, with Valencia facing a choice between maintaining the existing €15m protection or promoting him to a first-team deal that would double the release clause.
