Calò struck in the 14th minute for his first Serie A goal, finishing after a pass from Romano Schmid that was deflected past Jean Butez. Kvernadze doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time, his third goal in as many league games, with Schmid again the provider on a quick counter-attack.
Como created the clearest chances early and hit the woodwork twice, but goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani made at least seven saves. The result leaves Frosinone level with Como on 10 points and gave Fàbregas his first defeat in 10 games.
Frosinone coach Massimiliano Alvini explained how he set up his team to press: “We had to decide whether to do this or something else. We have an identity but then every game has its own strategy. If you want to catch Como high, you risk ending up in open play; if you defend low, you have to duel low.
"Before the 2-0 we suffered defending deep with little pressure. We chose to play that kind of game, taking them on in open play.”
Asked about the president's comment that the real Frosinone would be seen at Napoli, he said: “I think Frosinone has been seen since 1 July last year, that's 48 games with a precise identity. We know very well what the path and the road ahead of us are, whatever the opponent. The president was certainly referring to the new signings who need to be integrated.”
Fàbregas, in his own press conference, blamed himself and admired the goalkeeper.
“I think I explained well before the game what Frosinone are; evidently I wasn't good at explaining it and getting the team to take it in. Today if we had won 1-4 it wouldn't have been a surprise because Palmisani made a lot of saves. We didn't have great control, we had four big chances to score.
"When you lose you have to get angry and analyse, but Frosinone played the game they wanted to play and we were not up to it. I can't slaughter my players for the missed goals. Well done to Frosinone for hurting you with their cards; we must improve for sure.”
On Frosinone's aggression from the first minute, he said: “It was very clear what Frosinone wanted to do, we knew it and we were not able to stop them. We could also have won because they do concede. Whoever is clinical wins the game.”
Frosinone visit Napoli on 10 October, while Como host Roma the following day.
