Bruno Fernandes has revealed his role in mentoring a rising talent at Manchester United, with youngster Shea Lacey now pushing for a first-team breakthrough.

The United captain has been a key figure both on and off the pitch this season, helping guide the club’s push towards Champions League qualification.

But away from matchdays, Fernandes has also been investing time in developing the next generation, with Lacey among those benefiting from his experience.

The 18-year-old attacker has been learning from Fernandes for the past four years, building a close relationship that is now beginning to show on the pitch.

As Lacey edges closer to senior involvement, Fernandes has opened up on the importance of sharing knowledge with younger players.

“I don’t try to be, it just comes natural, and it’s the way I like to see the game,” he told The Telegraph.

“I really enjoy that side, not coaching but trying to pass the information to other people and trying to make them understand.”

Fernandes’ influence extends beyond tactical advice, with his leadership and professionalism setting a standard within the squad.

Lacey’s development is seen as part of a wider effort at United to integrate academy talent into the first team.

The Portuguese midfielder has embraced that responsibility, recognising the value of guiding players who are just beginning their careers.

At the same time, Fernandes has started to consider his own future beyond playing, taking early steps into coaching.

“I’ve started but it’s not something I really think about, being a manager,” he added.

“If it happens, it will happen.”

While management may still be some way off, his current role as a mentor already reflects the qualities needed for life on the touchline.

For Manchester United, having a leader willing to nurture emerging talent like Lacey could prove crucial as the club looks to build sustainably for the future.
