After a season in which he broke into the Italian side's first team, Espanyol will pay around €3m for the 22-year-old's services, with Inter Milan retaining 50 per cent of any future sale, according to reports from Matteo Moretto.
The move represents a change of plan from earlier discussions, which had centred on a loan deal, with Espanyol now understood to prefer securing Kamate's rights outright rather than a temporary arrangement.
Born in Aulnay-sous-Bois, Kamate is French with Ivorian heritage, stands at 1.86m and is regarded as a versatile operator capable of playing as an interior midfielder, right winger or wing-back, with his energy and ground coverage seen as his standout attributes.
He would add further competition in a midfield area Manolo Gonzalez's side had earmarked for reinforcement since the end of last season, following the earlier arrivals of Calatrava, Roberto Moscardo, Kevin Hartman and Unai Nunez this summer.
Kamate progressed through Inter's academy before loan spells at Portuguese side AVS and Serie B club Modena, returning to Milan last season to play for the club's Under-23 side in Serie C, where he scored five goals and provided three assists in 33 appearances, adding a further goal and assist in the Serie C Cup.
He made his senior debut for Inter's first team in February, coming off the bench during a Coppa Italia quarter-final tie, playing as a right wing-back and setting up a goal in the process.
Espanyol's move for Kamate comes as the final stretch of the transfer window approaches, with the club continuing to look to add further depth across the squad. The structure of the deal, in which Inter retain half of any future sell-on value, reflects the Italian club's reluctance to fully relinquish a player they still rate highly despite sanctioning his exit for a modest initial fee.
