The Spaniard, who previously won the Europa League with Valencia, Sevilla three times and Villarreal, spoke to TNT Sports at the Tupras Stadium with the trophy in front of him and moved between reflection on the evening and a clear-eyed assessment of what comes next.
He began by placing the win in the context of his career and the support that had made it possible.
"Good evening. Fantastic. Europe has given us a lot. For myself as well — a lot. I'm always very grateful for Europe. For every competition but especially the Europa League. The owners, the players — it's very important how everybody got strongly behind this competition and we tried to get our best. We played it in a very serious way this year — so, so focused."
On the Aston Villa players, Emery was direct about the qualities he demanded from them.
"I was telling them in there: we need wishes, we need seriousness in this competition. To show on the field that you are the protagonist — and they did it."
He described this final as confirmation of a progression that has been building through seasons of European experience, from the Conference League semi-final in 2024 to the Champions League quarter-final exit against PSG last year and now to a final won convincingly in Istanbul.
"This final is confirmation of how we are progressing. It is very important for them. Last year in the FA Cup and the Champions League we lost — experience for us. Today I was ready to win, I was ready to lose. Experience for us. But of course winning is better."
On what comes next, Emery was unambiguous about the standards being set.
"We are getting stronger. The club is working to extend the stadium by 10,000 seats. We are building and changing the training centre. We are trying to be demanding. Next year we are going to be in the Champions League. That makes sense of everything we are doing."
He was equally candid about what it would take to close the gap on the clubs above them.
"Hopefully we can be close with teams like City and Arsenal. But to keep it is our challenge. To be in that group consistently — that is what we are trying to do."
