The forward had been the standout performer among Liverpool's new arrivals last season, scoring 17 goals before suffering the injury in the Champions League second leg against his former club Paris Saint-Germain in April.
The rupture, the same type of injury suffered by John Barnes during his time at Anfield, has raised questions over whether Ekitike will return to his previous level.
According to L'Equipe, Ekitike has been in considerable pain over the past two months as he has come to terms with missing the tournament, and has tried to distance himself from football entirely as he processes the setback.
Ekitike was seen on crutches following Liverpool's final game of the season against Brentford, having undergone a successful operation in London in the days after the injury.
The procedure was carried out by American specialists, including the surgeon who oversaw the same operation for Boston Celtics basketball player Jayson Tatum.
Tatum suffered his Achilles injury during the second round of the NBA playoffs in May 2025 and returned to action in March this year.
Liverpool staff are reported to be pleased with Ekitike's progress so far, with the forward focusing on upper body conditioning while he remains in a protective boot.
