Paulo Dybala is on the verge of signing a contract extension with AS Roma, with a basic agreement in place and the Argentine having consistently declined more lucrative offers from abroad in favour of remaining at the club he joined in 2022.

Transfer journalist Matteo Moretto reported that the renewal negotiations are in their final phase, with key details still to be resolved but a formal announcement expected soon.

The decisive factor has been the 32-year-old's own position β€” he has given AS Roma absolute priority throughout a process that stretched across several months.

Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who has managed Dybala during a productive season at the Olimpico, gave a carefully worded update before the agreement was finalised.

"This is a moment of stalemate, we are working quietly underneath, then maybe the news comes out suddenly. But the will is there.

"I would like to keep all the big players β€” then there are also financial and balance sheet needs. We will have to be good at overcoming them and understanding how to keep the best."

Dybala's willingness to prioritise Roma over financial maximisation is the central feature of the story. The attacking midfielder has had interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League and from other European sides, all offering superior financial packages. He has declined each one.

His form this season β€” contributing consistently in Roma's attacking moves under Gasperini β€” reinforced the club's determination to retain him, with a new deal bringing both security and a further year at the Olimpico.
