RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande says Jurgen Klopp tells him to stay humble and keep working, playing down suggestions the pair have discussed a Liverpool move as the 19-year-old emerges as the club's primary target to replace Mohamed Salah.

Klopp left Liverpool in 2024 after eight and a half years and has since taken up the role of Head of Global Football at Red Bull, giving him oversight of several clubs including RB Leipzig.

He has spent time with Diomande through those duties, and the 19 year-old told Bild the conversations have been grounding rather than strategic.

"No, not that. But we talk every now and then. He tells me to stay humble and keep working hard. It was always my dream to play on one of his teams."

"That's not quite possible now. But being so close to him now, talking to him, shaking his hand, it's incredible. He's a legend. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a movie."

Diomande has 13 goals and nine assists across 33 appearances this season — a return that has confirmed his status as one of the Bundesliga's standout performers in his debut campaign in Germany. Liverpool have opened talks with his representatives and view him as an ideal fit for Arne Slot's attacking system, with Salah departing on a free transfer when the season ends.

Leipzig value Diomande at €100 million and are not under pressure to sell, with the club heading back into the Champions League.

Red Bull chief Oliver Mintzlaff has publicly stated his preference that the winger stays for at least another season. However, those within the club acknowledge he is not unsellable and that they are not in a position to reject offers in that region.

Diomande has previously said he wants to play for Liverpool and that his father dreams of watching him at Anfield — comments that will only fuel the speculation heading into the summer window.
