Denmark centre-back Andreas Christensen has told reporters he expects his Barcelona contract situation to be resolved soon, with the 30-year-old expressing a clear desire to remain at the club after two seasons severely disrupted by injury.

Christensen's current deal expires on June 30, but he has consistently indicated his willingness to sign an extension and his comments from the Denmark training camp β€” where he is playing in friendlies ahead of a World Cup his nation did not qualify for β€” represent the clearest signal yet that an announcement is imminent.

"Would I like to stay at Barcelona? Yes, that is all I can say."

Asked for more specifics, he kept his answer brief but pointed.

"There are not many updates. I don't have too much to share, but I hope to be able to do so soon. Everyone knows what I want and where my head is, so I hope everything fits together soon."

Barcelona have been privately confident for several weeks that Christensen would accept their renewal offer, and sources at the club have described a deal as effectively agreed in principle.

His form in Denmark's 0-0 draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday β€” his first start since December β€” will have further reassured the club that he is physically ready to contribute next season.

The injuries have been relentless. He made only 18 appearances across all competitions this season, accumulating 543 minutes β€” including his first start since December 2025 only in the final La Liga match of the campaign against Valencia. The 2024-25 season was even more limited, with just eight appearances.

"It has been five months that have been long, but I feel that right now I am in a good moment. The last injury was the result of an accident where I got caught in the turf. I would have loved to play more minutes, but it was something I could not control."

A renewal announcement is expected before the end of June.
