The 23-year-old Frenchman attracted interest from several major European clubs during the summer, including PSG, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Tottenham and Atlético Madrid. Chelsea’s asking price reportedly deterred potential suitors.
The situation could now be revisited, with PSG said to be monitoring Gusto as they consider options to provide competition for Achraf Hakimi at right-back.
Gusto’s versatility is another attraction. He has been used in different positions for Chelsea, including in central midfield, offering potential cover beyond his natural role on the right side of defence.
Chelsea are not reported to have agreed a sale, and there is no confirmed transfer offer from PSG. Any move would depend on the clubs’ valuations and the player’s role at Stamford Bridge.
Gusto has continued to feature under manager Xabi Alonso, starting three of Chelsea’s first four Premier League matches this season. However, competition for places could increase following the arrival of Marco Palestra, whose debut came from the bench against Bournemouth.
Chelsea had demanded around £75m for Gusto in the summer, close to three times the fee they paid Lyon when securing his services in January 2023. A change in the club’s willingness to listen to offers could reopen discussions, although the reported valuation may still prove a significant obstacle.
Gusto is understood to be settled in west London and keen to establish himself as a regular at Chelsea. Uncertainty over his long-term place in the side could nevertheless influence his thinking if interest from abroad develops.
The right-back has made 141 appearances for Chelsea, scoring three goals and providing 18 assists. His age, experience and ability to cover multiple positions make him an attractive option for clubs seeking defensive depth.
For PSG, the appeal would be adding competition for Hakimi while gaining a player capable of filling more than one role. For Chelsea, the decision will depend on whether a suitable offer arrives and how the club sees Gusto fitting into Alonso’s plans.
For now, the reported interest remains a transfer possibility rather than an imminent departure.
