Chelsea scored twice inside the opening three minutes of Saturday’s 5-1 Premier League win over Bournemouth. Jordan Henderson opened the scoring before Rogers added the second, and João Pedro struck shortly after half-time to extend the advantage.
Alonso was asked about the pattern after the match, but played down his own influence.
“I have nothing to do with it,” he said. “I have no explanation. No credit to me.”
Rogers, however, believes the preparation delivered by the head coach is making a difference.
“I put it down to the manager’s team talks. He gets us firing, gets us going. We always want to start off on the front foot,” the England international said.
The forward added that taking an early lead has been especially valuable in home matches, where Chelsea have often been able to build on their initial momentum.
“It’s about starting well and getting the lead. A lot of games, especially at home, we have won after jumping on the back of early goals. It’s a good trait to have which we need to keep going,” Rogers said.
The Bournemouth game was the latest example of Chelsea’s ability to attack from the opening whistle. They had already scored inside the first minute against Fulham in their opening league fixture, while their early goals against Arsenal and Hull also helped set the tone.
Chelsea’s second goal against Bournemouth came just over two minutes after kick-off, leaving the visitors with an immediate challenge. The Blues then restored their two-goal cushion soon after the interval through João Pedro, before the Brazilian added another and Henderson completed his brace.
Rogers has made an immediate impact since joining Chelsea from Aston Villa during the summer. The 24-year-old scored on his debut against Fulham and has also found the net against Arsenal, Hull and Bournemouth.
Alonso has praised Rogers’ all-round contribution since his arrival, describing him as a complete modern player. The forward’s comments offer a glimpse into how the manager is preparing Chelsea for matches, even as he refuses to claim responsibility for their fast starts.
For Rogers, the message is straightforward: begin with intensity, seize the initiative and make opponents respond from the outset. Chelsea will hope the habit continues as the season develops.
