Henderson opened the scoring inside the first minute, before Morgan Rogers quickly doubled Chelsea’s advantage. João Pedro struck shortly after half-time and added another later in the game, while Henderson completed his double with a superb free-kick. Bournemouth managed a consolation, but Chelsea’s attacking display ensured there was no late doubt over the result.
Alonso was pleased with the overall performance and highlighted Henderson’s influence in midfield, where the experienced summer signing offered control, communication and leadership.
“He's played a very midfielder performance, always involved in the action and giving solutions to his teammates. He communicates with everyone,” the Chelsea manager said.
Henderson’s two goals were an added bonus for a player signed for his broader contribution. Alonso made clear that Chelsea valued his all-round qualities, rather than simply his ability to find the net.
“We signed him for everything. If he's able to score two beauties like today, we are more than happy for him. Today was a very complete performance. We were in control for most of the game.”
The manager also praised the partnership between Henderson and Moisés Caicedo, whose contrasting qualities have helped provide greater balance in the centre of the pitch.
“Both, in terms of qualities, are different. In terms of the positioning, they help each other well. They give presence, they give stability as well,” Alonso said. “It's fundamental we get that area strong.”
Caicedo returned to action after an absence, although Alonso had planned to manage his minutes rather than ask him to complete the full match.
“The plan was for him not to play the whole game. Even if you always want to have Moi on the pitch,” he explained. “With him, we have a better midfield area. It's something to build around.”
Alonso also welcomed the news that Cole Palmer had signed a new contract, describing the forward as an important part of Chelsea’s long-term plans.
“We believe Cole is going to be a top-class player for many years and the longer he's here, the better,” he said.
The Chelsea boss was equally enthusiastic about Morgan Rogers, praising the youngster’s physical qualities, availability and understanding with teammates.
“He's young, he's fresh, he's strong, he's quick, he's a very complete modern football player,” Alonso said.
After a convincing attacking display, Chelsea will hope the result provides momentum for the matches ahead. Alonso’s comments suggested the performance offered encouragement beyond the scoreline, particularly through the growing influence of experienced players in key positions.
