Brighton and Hove Albion have agreed a new long-term contract with head coach Fabian Hürzeler, ending months of speculation about his future and rewarding the 33-year-old for guiding the club to the brink of European qualification.

Hürzeler had 12 months remaining on his existing deal and had been publicly linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen following the departure of Xabi Alonso.

He shut down those reports in April, saying he was totally committed to his work at the Amex Stadium and expressing gratitude for the club's support. The new deal, confirmed by Sky Sports News, is long-term and expected to run well beyond 2027, though Brighton declined to comment on contractual details ahead of an official announcement.

Brighton sit eighth in the Premier League on 50 points with three games remaining. They are two points behind sixth-placed Bournemouth in the race for European football and have an outside mathematical chance of reaching fifth, which would guarantee a Champions League place. The club's only previous European campaign came under Roberto De Zerbi in the 2023/24 Europa League.

Hürzeler arrived from St Pauli in June 2024, becoming the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history at 31 years old. He replaced De Zerbi, who left for Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season, and guided the club to eighth place in his debut season before this year's stronger challenge.

Speaking last month when dismissing the Leverkusen links directly, Hürzeler was clear about his priorities.

"It's always an honour to be linked to these kinds of rumours and speculation but I'm really happy here. I'm very thankful for the trust and support the club has given me. I'm really enjoying my time here and I'm totally committed — there are no thoughts elsewhere."

The renewal protects Brighton from losing their manager at the end of the season and gives the club's sporting structure the stability to plan the summer window around a confirmed head coach. Brighton face Manchester United, Arsenal and Leicester City in their remaining three fixtures.
