According to Sky Germany, the Premier League club are continuing to follow both players and could make another attempt to bring them to England next summer.
Brighton had explored the possibility of signing the brothers during the previous transfer window, but a move did not come together. A January deal is not currently expected, although the club are understood to be keeping their options open for the end of the season.
The interest in Malek has been particularly notable given the different stages of the brothers’ careers. The 21-year-old has only recently made his Bundesliga debut for Cologne, while younger brother Said has attracted attention from several clubs.
Malek made an immediate impact on his first appearance in the German top flight against Union Berlin, coming off the bench before scoring the equaliser five minutes later. His goal came from a cross delivered by Said, making the moment particularly special for the family.
The prospect of Brighton revisiting a deal could therefore depend partly on how Malek develops over the remainder of the campaign. The club had previously outlined a pathway for him that would have involved opportunities with the first team, despite his initial role being with the reserve side.
Said, meanwhile, remains a major part of Cologne’s plans. He extended his contract until 2031 after the failed summer move, while Malek is also tied to the club until 2031.
Brighton are expected to continue monitoring their progress, with the possibility of a renewed approach next summer still on the table. For now, however, there is no indication that either brother is set to leave Cologne during the January window.
