Bournemouth are continuing to explore a return loan move for goalkeeper Christos Mandas, with the club also confirming the permanent departure of development squad player Michael Dacosta Gonzalez.

The Cherries' hierarchy like the Greek goalkeeper, but opted not to meet the option to buy in his loan move from Lazio during the second half of last season, with Mandas falling short of the appearances required to trigger a permanent transfer.

Bournemouth have enquired with Lazio about bringing Mandas back to Dean Court for a further loan, as first reported by Sky Sports.

Should the club be unable to reach an agreement over a second spell for the goalkeeper, Bournemouth would move on to other options to strengthen the position.

Mandas originally joined the club in January as the goalkeeping department underwent a reshuffle following an injury to Will Dennis, which prompted Bournemouth to first bring in Fraser Forster on a short-term deal.

Mandas arrived from Lazio shortly afterwards, with Dennis subsequently moving to Leyton Orient on loan.

Neither Forster nor Mandas played a single minute for the Cherries last season, but head coach Andoni Iraola praised the impact both had on first-choice goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.

The club want to replicate the goalkeeping set-up they had in the second half of last term, with Mandas providing competition for the Serbian and Forster playing a mentor role to the 26-year-old.

Forster has been offered a new contract, while the club continue to explore another loan for Mandas as they look to finalise their plans between the posts.

Separately, Bournemouth confirmed that development squad player Michael Dacosta Gonzalez has left the club to join fellow Black Knight Football Club side Moreirense on a permanent basis.

The move sees Dacosta Gonzalez head to the Portuguese top flight, with Bournemouth saying the transfer strengthens the close sporting relationship between the two clubs.

The Daily Echo reports there was no fee involved in the deal, which the Cherries said reinforces a wider commitment to creating clear development pathways for emerging talent across the Black Knight group.

Bournemouth's statement said the move offers Dacosta Gonzalez an exciting opportunity to establish himself in Europe, with regular first-team football at Moreirense seen as the ideal platform to continue his development.

Dacosta Gonzalez joined Bournemouth at the age of 11, having moved to England from Spain with his mother and younger brother Malcom, who remains part of the club's academy set-up.

He made two senior appearances on loan at Hartlepool United in September and October last year, starting once against York City in the National League.

Bournemouth thanked Dacosta Gonzalez for his dedication and professionalism during his time at Vitality Stadium, and wished him success as he begins a new chapter in Portuguese football.
