The 29-year-old Turkey international made 58 appearances for the Cherries and scored five goals, a stint disrupted by a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in training in January 2025 that kept him out of action until October.
Bournemouth signed Unal on loan from Getafe in January 2024 before making the move permanent for around £13m later that year. Despite two years still remaining on his contract, the club have let him leave for nothing, though they retain the option of up to £1.3m in future bonuses and a 20% sell-on clause should he move again.
Unal returns to a club where he previously scored 36 goals in 109 appearances between 2020 and his move to the south coast, having arrived in Spain from Villarreal following an unsuccessful spell as a teenager at Manchester City, whom he joined aged 16 in 2015 without ever making a competitive appearance for the club, instead spending time on loan at Genk, NAC Breda and Twente.
When Bournemouth signed him on a permanent deal in 2024, then-head coach Andoni Iraola said he had long admired the striker from facing him in La Liga and believed "his way of playing is very adapted to the Premier League."
That backing did not survive his injury lay-off: with Marco Rose now in charge and looking to trim the wage bill, Unal fell outside the club's plans on his return to fitness.
A regular for his country either side of his injury, Unal has won 32 caps for Turkey and was involved in their squad at Euro 2024, adding international pedigree to a move Getafe will hope pays off after his goal return in his first spell at the club.
A Bournemouth statement paid tribute to his contribution: "A popular figure within the squad, Unal leaves having made a positive contribution both on and off the pitch during his time with the Cherries. AFC Bournemouth would like to thank Enes for his efforts during his time with the club and wish him every success for the future."
Unal's departure is likely to open up first-team opportunities for Daniel Jebbison, while Bournemouth continue to work on a separate deal that would allow full-back Max Aarons to leave the club as they near the end of their summer business.
