Marcel Sabitzer and Ramy Bensebaini will both leave Signal Iduna Park when their contracts expire in 2027, according to Sport Bild. The Austrian midfielder, who joined from Bayern Munich for €20 million in 2023, earns a reported €7.5 million per season and has one year remaining on his deal.
The Algerian defender arrived on a free transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the same summer and is also on a contract running until 2027.
Neither player is currently in line for an extension. The report states that it is "internally ruled out" that Sabitzer's contract will be renewed, while Bensebaini has also been told no new deal is on the table. Both are expected to see out the current campaign as squad players rather than automatic starters under Niko Kovac.
The shift reflects a broader strategic change at Dortmund. The club intends to use the 2026 summer window as a blueprint for future recruitment, concentrating on high-potential young talents such as Konstantinos Karetsas and Joane Gadou rather than investing in established veterans.
At the same time, the club is working to lock down its experienced core. Sport Bild reports that the management of Waldemar Anton and Julian Ryerson have both been informed that the club wants to extend their contracts, which currently run until 2028. Negotiations with both defenders are expected to begin in the coming weeks.
Ryerson has been a fixture at right-back since joining from Union Berlin in January 2023 and signed an extension to 2028 last October. The Norwegian has made 62 competitive appearances for the club and has attracted interest from Manchester United, though Borussia Dortmund would reportedly demand around €30 million for his signature.
Anton, who arrived from VfB Stuttgart in 2024, has established himself as a commanding presence in central defence alongside Nico Schlotterbeck. The 30-year-old has been a regular under Kovac and is viewed as a leader both on and off the pitch.
Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel is also in line for fresh terms. The Swiss international, whose deal also expires in 2028, is expected to hold decisive talks with the club later this year. Kobel has been Dortmund's first-choice keeper since arriving from VfB Stuttgart in 2021 and was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for 2025-26.
The contract decisions form part of a wider squad restructuring that has already seen Felix Nmecha and Nico Schlotterbeck extend their deals, while Karim Adeyemi is also in negotiations.
