Bayern confirm they're monitoring Gladbach talent Wael Mohya

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed the club are monitoring Borussia Mönchengladbach youngster Wael Mohya, but insists no contact has been made with the player or his representatives.

The 17-year-old has attracted growing attention after an impressive start to the season, with his performances for Borussia Monchengladbach putting him on the radar of several leading European clubs.

Bayern Munich's interest was confirmed by Eberl in an interview with Sky Sports, although he was careful to distinguish the club's admiration for the teenager from any concrete attempt to sign him.

“We are keeping an eye on the boy, but we haven't exchanged a single word with the player, his agency or Borussia,” Eberl explained.

The comments confirm that Mohya is being monitored in Munich, but there have been no negotiations or formal approach to Gladbach at this stage.

Bayern have traditionally placed considerable emphasis on identifying the best young German players, and Mohya's emergence has naturally attracted their attention. His performances have been particularly impressive given his age and the difficult circumstances surrounding Gladbach's season.

The teenager has already established himself in the first team and has contributed three goals and an assist across competitions. His progress has also been recognised at international level, with Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp selecting him for the senior squad for the first time.

That call-up has further raised Mohya's profile, with a number of major European clubs understood to be following his development. Barcelona have also been linked with an interest in the young attacker, making it increasingly likely that Gladbach will face competition to retain him.

For now, however, Bayern have made no move beyond monitoring his performances. Eberl's comments suggest the club are interested in keeping track of his progress rather than pursuing an immediate transfer.

Gladbach will be keen to protect one of their most promising young players, particularly with his development continuing to attract attention. His current contract runs until 2028, although the club are reportedly keen to extend it and secure his longer-term future.

Mohya's next steps will be important in determining how quickly interest turns into concrete offers. Bayern have made their admiration clear, but Eberl's message is that there is currently no transfer process underway.
