According to Bild, Bayer Leverkusen remain open to Boniface staying on as an impact substitute, or to a permanent sale or a fresh loan away from the BayArena, with no firm decision yet made.
The club still believes in the 25-year-old's potential after a solid pre-season, even though his most recent loan spell at Werder Bremen last season failed to convince, hampered by ongoing knee problems that have plagued his career since two previous ACL tears.
Boniface, who is under contract at Leverkusen until 2028, joined the club from Union Saint-Gilloise in 2023 following a breakout spell in Belgium, where he scored 17 goals in 51 appearances after moving from Bodø/Glimt in Norway.
He was part of Leverkusen's historic 2023-24 campaign, contributing to the club's league title, cup win and Super Cup success, but his time in Germany has since been repeatedly disrupted by injury, limiting him to intermittent appearances despite flashes of the form that first made him one of the Bundesliga's most exciting young forwards.
Werder's decision not to make his loan permanent reflected ongoing concerns over his fitness rather than his talent, and Leverkusen's willingness to consider all three scenarios underlines the uncertainty still surrounding his immediate future, with a resolution expected before the transfer window closes on September 1.
Boniface's spell at Werder had initially been viewed as a shrewd piece of business for the Bremen club, who paid no loan fee and covered only around half of his roughly €3m annual salary.
Instead, persistent fitness problems meant he featured only sporadically before Bremen ultimately opted against pursuing a permanent deal, leaving Leverkusen to reassess their options for a player they still rate highly on potential alone.
