Barcelona will formalise the new deal, which takes the Egyptian forward through to June 2030, at a signing ceremony next Tuesday.
The club had already exercised a €1.5 million option to buy Abdelkarim outright from Al Ahly over the summer, having initially taken him on loan in January, and his new release clause has since been set at €150 million.
Abdelkarim, full name Hamza Mohamed Abdelkarim Selim, arrived to join Barcelona's Juvenil A side amid bureaucratic delays that pushed his debut back to March, but needed only a handful of matches to convince both coaching staff and the sporting hierarchy of his quality, having also featured twice in the Copa del Rey, a competition in which Barcelona finished runners-up.
In nine appearances he scored six goals, including a hat-trick in a 9-0 rout of Montecarlo, and has since been included in every matchday squad for the first team this season, though his minutes have so far been limited to a substitute appearance against Rayo Vallecano.
The 18-year-old's rise accelerated further over the summer. Having featured for Egypt at this year's World Cup, he chose to forgo his holidays and report immediately for Barcelona's pre-season under Hansi Flick, ending the preparation period as the club's top scorer with four goals in five friendlies. Sporting CP, AC Milan and Bayern Munich were all credited with interest in the striker before Barcelona moved to secure his long-term future.
Abdelkarim's rapid progression, from a loan arrival in the club's youth ranks to a contract through 2030 and regular involvement with the first team, represents one of the more striking recruitment stories of Barcelona's year.
Some Egyptian media have already drawn comparisons between Abdelkarim and Manchester City's Erling Haaland, a lofty parallel for a player who was still turning out for Egypt's under-17s little more than a year ago, having top-scored at the 2025 Under-17 World Cup with two goals and an assist.
