Bergvall's representatives have been sounding out several of Europe's leading clubs, Barcelona included, as they look for a way out of a difficult situation at Tottenham this summer, according to journalist Krrish on X.
The operation could be worth around £60m, but that figure has done nothing to shift Barcelona's thinking, with sporting director Deco making clear the club considers the Bergvall file closed for good and has no intention of revisiting a deal it walked away from years ago.
Barcelona's midfield priorities lie elsewhere entirely, with Manchester City's Rodri remaining the club's absolute priority as it looks to add a different profile to the middle of the park.
Bergvall's situation at Tottenham has become increasingly complicated following a difficult season that left Spurs closer to the relegation zone than the top of the Premier League, with the club since bringing in Sandro Tonali and Matheus Fernandes to strengthen central midfield, moves that have squeezed the Sweden international's path to regular football.
The two clubs came close to a deal back in 2024, when Barcelona had an agreement close to being finalised worth around €7m plus €3m in add-ons while Bergvall was still playing for Djurgården; the midfielder even travelled to Barcelona to meet Deco and tour the club's training facilities.
Tottenham ultimately improved their financial terms for both the Swedish club and the player, and Barcelona chose not to enter a bidding war, with Bergvall opting for London instead.
Then-coach Xavi Hernández summed up the situation at the time: "One club offered more and we felt we shouldn't go higher. That's how the market works."
Bergvall later admitted in an interview with Swedish outlet Sportbladet that turning Barcelona down had not been easy.
"They are two incredible clubs and the choice was very difficult. The decision was 50/50 for a long time, but I felt the next step for me was Tottenham. It wasn't easy to say no to Barça," he said.
This time, Barcelona's response has been immediate: the club has thanked those behind the offer but has no plans to reactivate a deal it regards as settled, keeping all of its focus on landing Rodri instead.
