Aston Villa are preparing for the departure of goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez this summer.

As part of that planning, the club are readying an offer for Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser, according to L'Équipe.

The report does not specify how much Aston Villa are prepared to offer for the 21-year-old.

Risser was one of the standout performers in Lens' impressive season, which saw the French club finish second in Ligue 1.

As a result of his form, Risser was included in France's World Cup squad as third-choice goalkeeper. He has made 38 appearances for Lens and is under contract with the French club until the summer of 2030.

Risser began his career at Strasbourg before loan spells at Dijon and Red Star, and joined Lens on a permanent deal in July 2025. He started all 33 Ligue 1 matches last season, keeping 11 clean sheets as Lens secured their historic second-place finish.

Risser was named Ligue 1's Goalkeeper of the Year at the end of the campaign, beating out established names for the award.

His rise to senior France recognition came after Lucas Chevalier lost his starting place at Paris Saint-Germain and was sidelined by injury.

Villa's move for Risser would represent a significant coup, given the goalkeeper's rapid rise from the French third tier to a place in his country's World Cup squad within the space of two seasons.

Martínez's own next destination has not been reported, but Villa appear to be preparing for life without their long-serving number one.
