Mikel Arteta has urged Arsenal supporters to repeat the electric scenes that preceded the Champions League semi-final victory over Atletico Madrid as the club prepares to host Burnley on Monday night with a Premier League title within reach.

Arsenal lead Manchester City by two points with two games to play. A win against Burnley would move them five points clear and leave City needing to win both of their remaining fixtures to deny the Gunners a first top-flight title since 2004.

Supporter group REDaction Gooners, working in consultation with the club, has organised a team bus greeting for Monday's game, replicating an event staged before the Atletico second leg that produced scenes Arteta described as unlike anything he had experienced in five years at the Emirates.

"I loved it. I think all the players loved it. It builds an energy, a connection with them that we haven't experienced before. The whole preparation and the whole atmosphere showed that the level of meaning was higher and the level of implication and desire and passion from our supporters was different as well. It really helps."

He described the moment of realisation when the bus arrived at the ground and the scale of the crowd's response registered among his staff.

"I could see straight away all the staff and everybody was there just looking at each other and saying 'wow, we've taken this now to a different level.' Just looking, the engagement, the passion, the enthusiasm of our fans in their eyes โ€” I think that was something special."

Arteta also reflected on how far the club's matchday culture has shifted since he was appointed in December 2019, recalling what he encountered when he arrived having come from Pep Guardiola's staff at City.

"A few days before I was appointed here I was on the other bench with Man City and that image, that feeling of the stadium, the crowd โ€” 50 per cent of the stadium was empty. It really got into me. I said 'with this, there is no project, there is anything that we're not going to do. This is not going to work.' Unfortunately it got worse very quickly because then Covid hit and then instead of 50 per cent we have zero. So you make the job even harder. But when it's harder at the beginning, then it's better."

Arsenal reach Monday's game having beaten Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the Champions League semi-final second leg at the Emirates, with Bukayo Saka's first-half goal sending the club to a final in Budapest against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30.
