His form since arriving in Sweden has made him one of the Allsvenskan's most eye-catching attacking players: Arsenal sent the 22-year-old winger out on loan for the full 2026 campaign in February, and he has repaid the move with two goals and eight assists in 14 league appearances so far.
Speaking to SVT Sport, Sagoe Jr confirmed that talks over extending his stay beyond this season have already begun.
"Of course there's been talk about it. It's up to Mats (Winblad, sporting director), my agent and myself to talk about those things," he said, before crediting the trust Kalmar's sporting director has shown him.
"Before every match Mats tells me to just have fun, and when he says that a weight lifts off my shoulders. I feel trust from him and the coaches."
The England-born winger, who is of Ghanaian descent, came through Arsenal's academy after joining as a schoolboy from Fulham, and made his first-team debut for the Gunners in the EFL Cup against Brentford in September 2023 — one of only a handful of senior appearances he made in England before this loan.
He had previously spent time out at Swansea City and Shrewsbury Town, telling Fotbollskanalen when he agreed the move to Sweden that he felt he "needed a fresh start" and a chance to show what he could do in first-team football. His loan runs until the end of the calendar year, in line with the Allsvenskan's spring-to-autumn structure, and any permanent switch would still need to be agreed separately with Arsenal.
Kalmar, back in the Allsvenskan for the first time since promotion last year, currently sit 11th in the table with 17 points from 14 rounds and face BK Häcken away on Saturday. A permanent deal would mark a significant show of faith from Kalmar in a player who arrived in Sweden with only limited senior experience but has since become one of the division's most sought-after loanees — his debut alone, a goal and an assist away to Varnamo in February, offered an early sign of what was to come.
