The future of Ansu Fati appears to have reached its conclusion, with Barcelona and Monaco having completed the formal steps required to make his move to the principality permanent.

The Spanish forward spent the 2025-26 season on loan in Monaco, where he found the form that had largely eluded him during his later years at Barcelona.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs have now finalised every aspect of the deal, with Monaco paying €11 million to secure Fati on a permanent basis.

The fee corresponds to the buy option included in last year's loan agreement, with the move also expected to include a sell-on clause benefiting Barcelona on any future transfer.

Fati's season in Ligue 1 played a significant role in convincing Monaco to make the move permanent. The forward scored around a dozen goals across all competitions for the principality club, helping reverse what had become a difficult period in his career marked by injuries and limited opportunities at Barcelona.

The move also ties into Barcelona's broader financial planning, with the transfer expected to help the club meet financial fair play requirements before the summer transfer window opens.

Fati's career at Barcelona began as a teenager in 2019, when he was considered one of La Masía's brightest prospects and the natural heir to the club's attacking legacy, comparisons that followed him for years before injuries disrupted his progress. He went on to make over 120 official appearances for the first team across several seasons, contributing close to 30 goals.

For Monaco, the permanent signing represents a statement of intent. The Ligue 1 club is building part of its squad around Fati for the years ahead, with a new long-term contract reportedly being finalised as part of the agreement.

For Barcelona, the sale closes one of the more closely watched sagas of recent transfer windows, drawing a line under a chapter that once carried enormous expectation and giving Fati the platform to rebuild his career away from the pressures of Camp Nou.
