Martin Anselmi has been formally presented as Elche's new head coach, taking charge of the club ahead of their new season in LaLiga.

The Argentine signed a one-year contract with an option for a second season subject to meeting sporting targets, marking his first experience in Spanish football following a successful career in South America and a recent spell at Porto.

Anselmi made clear at his presentation that he does not want to limit the club's ambitions following promotion.

"Setting survival or any other target as our goal would be limiting ourselves," Anselmi said. "The objective is to improve every day, and if we achieve that, we will aim for something more than last season."

The coach outlined the footballing identity he intends to build, describing it as a continuation of much of what his predecessor Eder Sarabia established during the promotion campaign.

"I have seen a brave team that dares to play. We have to build from there," Anselmi said. "I like to have the ball because I feel we have more chances of winning. I want an intelligent team, one that knows how to suffer and compete in every passage of play."

Anselmi confirmed he plans to meet with several individual players in the coming days, including winger Josan Ferrandez, whose future at the club had been the subject of speculation. The coach made clear publicly that he wants the Crevillente-born player to remain part of the project.

He also revealed he intends to speak with departed midfielder Pablo Sarabia to understand more about his experience at the club.

"There are many things I identify with. I want him to share everything he felt during his time at Elche," Anselmi said, while stressing he intends to bring his own ideas to a foundation he considers solid. "We cannot settle for what was done last season. It is a platform to keep building on."

On squad planning, Anselmi acknowledged certain positions need strengthening but said the club would proceed carefully.

"There is a lot of ground gained, but what matters is that the team is competitive from the very first match," he said. "There are no magic formulas โ€” it has to be built day by day. We don't want to bring players in just for the sake of it. We want players who understand the moment the club is going through and what it means to defend this shirt."

The coach also accepted that some of the squad's standout performers from the promotion campaign may leave during the summer market.

"Elche is a club that develops and sells players. We will have to replace whoever leaves. The squad has some needs and we are working to cover them," he said.

Anselmi closed his first appearance with genuine enthusiasm for the project ahead.

"I know the fanbase we represent and I have followed closely the connection between team and supporters. I always knew our paths would cross at some point. It comes at a spectacular moment, and a magical year is coming," he said.
