AC Milan are monitoring Union Saint-Gilloise defender Massiré Sylla as they consider defensive reinforcements, with the 21-year-old emerging as a promising January target.

According to transfer journalist Matteo Moretto, the Senegalese centre-back is among the younger defensive profiles being considered by the Italian club as they prepare for the winter transfer window.

AC Milan have also been tracking Sporting CP defender Gonçalo Inácio, who remains one of their preferred options, particularly for head coach Ruben Amorim. However, the club are continuing to assess alternative targets, with Sylla attracting attention through his performances in Belgium.

The 196cm defender has established himself as an important member of the Union Saint-Gilloise side and has impressed with his consistency since joining the club.

Born in Senegal on 7 January 2005, Sylla is right-footed and has already contributed one goal and two assists during the current campaign. His physical presence and ability to contribute in possession have helped establish his reputation as one of the more promising young defenders in the Belgian league.

He is also capable of operating in defensive midfield, having played in that position during his early development at the Diambars academy in Senegal.

Sylla's European career has included spells in France and Norway. He previously played for Pau before moving to Lyn, where his performances earned him a transfer to Union Saint-Gilloise in January 2026.

The Belgian club secured his services for a reported €800,000 and tied him to a contract running until June 2030, giving them a strong negotiating position should interest develop into formal offers.

Despite his relatively modest valuation of around €5 million, Milan would need to negotiate with a club that has little immediate contractual pressure to sell.

Sylla is also understood to have ambitions of representing Senegal at international level, with a move to a major European club potentially providing another opportunity to advance his career.

However, playing time remains an important consideration for the defender. Any move would need to offer a realistic pathway into the first team rather than simply the attraction of joining a bigger club.

Milan's interest does not mean a transfer is imminent, but Sylla's emergence provides another indication that the club are considering both established defenders and younger prospects as they plan their January recruitment.

For Union Saint-Gilloise, retaining a defender under contract until 2030 could prove important as interest in his performances continues to grow.
