The 35-year-old defender left Newcastle United at the end of his contract and signed what amounted to a pre-contract agreement with Wolves on Monday, with the move due to formally begin on July 1.
According to Sky Sports News, Trippier feels betrayed and misled by the club, with Edwards's presence as manager having been a decisive factor in his choice of Wolves over several other suitors.
Trippier had spoken warmly about his conversation with Edwards in his unveiling.
"I had a good chat with the manager, and what struck me first was how passionate he was for helping the club move forward to get out of the Championship next season."
Less than 72 hours later, Edwards was dismissed. According to journalist Pete O'Rourke, Edwards himself learned of his own sacking from a family member who had seen reports circulating on social media — with the club's successor, Gil Vicente boss César Peixoto, already being lined up before Edwards was formally informed.
Edwards had played a direct role in convincing both Trippier and Mexico striker Raúl Jiménez to join Wolves this week, and was also credited with persuading Brazilian midfielder Andre to sign a new contract extension. All three pieces of business were completed in the days immediately before his dismissal.
Several Molineux players have reached out to Edwards directly to express their dismay at how the situation was handled.
For Trippier, the situation presents a genuine dilemma. He cut short a holiday in Turkey to undergo a medical and finalise the move, choosing Wolves specifically on the strength of the role Edwards had described for him within the squad and dressing room. Whether he proceeds with a club he no longer recognises as the one he agreed to join — or seeks to explore his other options, with his Newcastle contract expiring at the end of the month regardless — remains genuinely open.
Wolves have not commented beyond their official statement on Edwards's departure. The Trippier situation adds a further complication to a managerial transition that has already generated unusually hostile reaction from within the club's own dressing room.
