Roberto De Zerbi has deemed the Brazil forward surplus to requirements after a proposed return to Everton collapsed late in the window, with Richarlison himself insisting he would only leave Spurs on terms he was comfortable with.
He has since agreed personal terms with Trabzonspor, according to talkSPORT, but the transfer remains unresolved with Turkey's deadline set for midnight on Friday.
talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs said the sticking point is the fee rather than the player's willingness to move.
"The player has not given a green light to the Trabzonspor project yet, but that could change today. He has accepted the broad financials — no surprise there," Jacobs said.
"The challenge here with Trabzonspor is the fee with Tottenham.
"As you can imagine, the Turkish club are not prepared to match the deal that was agreed in principle between Spurs and Everton worth £35m, because they know Tottenham want Richarlison out and that he's been removed from their Premier League squad. The initial bid that went in, about 48 hours ago, was in the region of only £15m plus add-ons, and Tottenham want a little bit more than that if they're to sanction it."
According to Jacobs, that gap in valuation has already prompted Trabzonspor to explore alternative targets, though he stressed the move was "not entirely dead." Complicating matters further is the fact that Brazil's domestic transfer window remains open into mid-September, giving Richarlison the option of holding out for a return home rather than accepting a reduced fee arrangement in Turkey.
"This is going to be one to watch today, to see whether Richarlison goes or whether he holds out for Brazil," Jacobs said.
Should no agreement be reached, Jacobs raised the possibility of Tottenham simply tearing up the 29-year-old's contract to release him into free agency, drawing a parallel with Karim Benzema's recent departure from Al-Hilal and Chelsea's earlier termination of Raheem Sterling's deal.
"There's even an outside chance that, a bit like Benzema at Al-Hilal, you get a mutual termination of contract," he said. "Chelsea did it with Sterling as well, and that would allow Richarlison to enter into free agency and then take his pick of a far bigger pool of suitors."
Richarlison has one year left on his Tottenham contract, having fallen down the pecking order following the arrivals of Omar Marmoush and Savio over the summer.
