Chelsea-owned defender Genesis Antwi has received his first senior Sweden call-up after impressing on loan at Strasbourg in Ligue 1.

The 19-year-old right-back joined the French club on loan in August and has made an encouraging start, accumulating 709 minutes across eight appearances.

Antwi has started eight consecutive matches for Strasbourg this season, although he was named among the substitutes for last weekend's 5-1 victory over Auxerre. He has also demonstrated his versatility, operating at left-back during his Ligue 1 debut against Marseille.

His performances have now earned recognition from Sweden head coach Graham Potter, who has selected him for the first time at senior international level.

Antwi progressed through Chelsea's academy after moving to London from Stockholm at the age of 11. He made his first-team debut in 2025, appearing twice in the Conference League under Enzo Maresca, but spent much of last season playing for the club's youth sides.

He had previously represented Sweden at Under-21 level, making his debut in September 2025 and collecting five appearances. His last involvement with the age group came in March, having missed the previous international break through illness.

Potter explained that Antwi's pace and performances against strong opposition had helped convince him to include the defender, particularly with Bologna's Emil Holm unavailable through injury.

"Genesis has done well in the U21 national team. With Emil Holm injured, we have chosen Felix Beijmo as a slightly more experienced full-back and then Genesis with his qualities such as incredible pace and speed. He has done well against teams like PSG and Monaco," Potter said.

The Sweden manager also revealed that he had spoken to people who worked with Antwi during his time at Chelsea.

"I have spoken to people who have worked with him there and they think highly of him, so I have a good idea. He will come in and help the group," he added.

Antwi has been described as a hidden gem because of his early move to England and the development he has undergone within Chelsea's academy.

His first opportunity to make a senior international appearance could come against Bosnia and Herzegovina on November 14 or Poland three days later, as Sweden continue their Nations League campaign.
