The 19-year-old joined the Bundesliga club from Tottenham Hotspur for the 2026-27 season, with Cologne unable to secure a purchase option in the agreement. The arrangement gives Moore a chance to gain regular senior football before returning to north London.
Cologne sporting managing director Thomas Kessler told Bild that Moore’s development should now be the priority, with the aim of making him a stronger candidate for Tottenham’s first team next season.
“For Mikey, it must now be about developing further as a footballer with us and showing himself in such a way that he can play an important role at Tottenham next year,” Kessler said.
Moore has already shown technical quality and attacking promise, but his contribution in front of goal has been limited so far. He has registered one assist in the current campaign and is still waiting to score his first goal for Cologne.
Head coach René Wagner believes the teenager is keen to make that breakthrough. Speaking about Moore’s wait for a goal, Wagner said: “He is eagerly waiting for that one moment when it finally clicks.”
The next opportunity could come against Schalke 04 on Saturday. Bild reported that Moore is expected to operate as an attacking midfielder, giving him another chance to influence the game closer to the opposition goal.
The move to Germany follows a loan spell at Rangers last season, where Moore gained experience in senior football and recorded seven goals in 47 appearances. Tottenham have sent him to Cologne to continue that progression in a demanding league.
For Cologne, the challenge is to help Moore turn flashes of promise into a more reliable contribution across matches. For Tottenham, the objective is equally clear: the teenager must return with the experience and confidence to compete for a more significant role.
The loan contains no option for Cologne to make the transfer permanent, so Moore’s longer-term future remains tied to Tottenham. His performances over the coming months will help determine how close he is to the first-team role Kessler says he should be targeting.
