Newcastle United have sent goalkeeper Aidan Harris to Hebburn Town on a short-term loan as the young shot-stopper looks to gain further experience in senior football.

The 19-year-old will join the Northern Premier League side, competing at the sixth tier of English football, for a brief spell away from Newcastle’s academy set-up.

Harris has already experienced a loan move beyond the club’s youth teams. He spent part of the 2025-26 season with Northern Irish Premiership club Coleraine, where he gained valuable first-team exposure before returning to Tyneside.

His time in Northern Ireland gave him the opportunity to play regularly in a senior environment, with the demands of men’s football offering a different challenge from academy competition. A spell at Hebburn should provide another chance to build on that experience.

Harris joined Newcastle’s youth system in 2017 after starting out with Washington United. He progressed through the academy and signed his first professional contract in 2024.

The goalkeeper won Newcastle’s Wor Jackie Award in 2024, recognising the club’s young player of the year. He has also been involved with the senior matchday squad, having been named among the substitutes for Newcastle’s Champions League meeting with AC Milan.

Harris made his first-team debut for Newcastle in a post-season friendly against the A-League All Stars in Melbourne in May 2024, but he has yet to make a competitive senior appearance for the club.

The short loan to Hebburn is intended to help him continue his development by testing himself against experienced opponents and taking on the responsibility of playing for points. Regular football is particularly important for a young goalkeeper, whose position often means opportunities in a club’s first team are limited.

Newcastle United will monitor his progress during the spell, with the aim of bringing him back with more experience and confidence. The arrangement is temporary, and Harris remains part of the club’s longer-term plans for developing goalkeepers through the academy.
