With the new Serie A season now just over two weeks away, Juventus's squad remains a work in progress, and sporting director Giovanni Carnevali is racing against the clock to complete the puzzle Spalletti has asked for.
Three names are on Carnevali's shortlist, though two carry considerably more urgency than the third: a goalkeeper and a centre-back are seen as essential, with Parma's Zion Suzuki the frontrunner between the posts and Bologna's Jhon Lucumí the preferred option at the back.
Only once those two positions are addressed will the club turn its attention to the forward line, where Joshua Zirkzee is the player under consideration for a return to Italian football after his years in England.
Elsewhere, Andrea Cambiaso moved to calm speculation over his own future at a press conference in Perth ahead of Saturday's friendly against Inter.
"Every summer every player gets dragged into transfer rumours," the full-back said, echoing comments made hours earlier by his agent, Giovanni Bia, who had already ruled out an exit: "There's no reason for him to leave, either a bid comes in from a big club or he stays at Juventus."
Cambiaso added: "That's part of the football world and we're all used to it by now. I'm very happy and proud to represent Juventus, I'm glad to be here and I'm focused on this."
The Italy international also addressed the possibility of playing on the right, a role he has filled before under both club and country.
"I like any position. In my first year with Allegri I played on the right, and for the national team too, so there's no issue. I always try to give my best wherever the coach wants me to play."
Reflecting on last season's disappointment, which ended in Juventus missing out on Champions League qualification, Cambiaso struck a determined tone: "The way it ended is one to forget. What we did last year, which wasn't enough, can still be useful this year to keep working and pushing harder. We need to carry that with us and work to do better."
