Senesi set for Tottenham move as free agent deal nears completion

Marcos Senesi is on the verge of joining Tottenham on a free transfer, with personal terms agreed and a formal contract expected to be signed within days.

The 29-year-old centre-back's contract at Bournemouth expires at the end of June and the Argentine has made his destination clear, having rejected at least three renewal offers from the Cherries in favour of a move to north London.

Journalist Rudy Galetti has described the deal as done. Multiple South American sources have confirmed a verbal agreement is in place, with Tottenham working to finalise a contract understood to run until 2030 with an option for a further year.

Senesi had conditioned his commitment to Spurs on the club retaining their Premier League status, a condition satisfied when Roberto De Zerbi's side beat Everton on the final day of the season to survive by two points.

Bournemouth confirmed the defender's departure earlier this month, bringing to a close four years and 105 appearances at Dean Court after Senesi arrived from Feyenoord in 2022.

Tottenham chief executive Vinai Venkatesham set out clearly what the summer recruitment drive must deliver.

"The squad needs work and the squad hasn't got the right balance," Venkatesham told BBC Sounds. "We need experience and leadership and also that kind of physical robustness to play in the most demanding league that exists. We need to strengthen the club over multiple transfer windows but this transfer window, in particular, is going to be critical."

Senesi's signing would represent De Zerbi's second confirmed arrival of the summer. Scotland international Andy Robertson is also set to leave Liverpool as a free agent and has an agreement in principle to join Spurs, bringing an end to a decorated eight-year stay at Anfield.

Robertson made his final Liverpool appearance in the club's last league fixture of the season. Tottenham had attempted to sign the left-back in the winter window, and while a deal was reached between the clubs at that point, Robertson ultimately stayed on Merseyside before committing to the move in the summer.

For Senesi, the move is a step up in ambition. Aston Villa had tabled a salary offer of around €4 million per year and Fenerbahçe were willing to match his reported €5 million wage demand, but Tottenham's combination of a longer contract, Premier League football and a clear rebuilding project proved more compelling.

He joins a defensive unit in need of fresh leadership. With Tottenham having narrowly avoided relegation and a manager now given the tools to rebuild properly, Senesi arrives with something to prove — and the platform to prove it.
