The deal, announced by both clubs, sees the 24-year-old join with the obligation converting into a permanent transfer once certain conditions are met.
Van der Brempt began his career in the Antwerp area with Schelle, Beerschot and Boom before joining KV Mechelen, and moved to Club Brugge's academy at 15. He made his professional debut for the Belgian club at the start of the 2019-20 season against Cercle Brugge, and went on to win the Belgian top-flight title with Brugge the following year, scoring in both the Champions League and Europa League along the way.
After 36 appearances for Brugge, Salzburg signed him in January 2022, where he won two league titles in 24 appearances before a loan to Hamburg in 2023-24, where he made 23 appearances and provided four assists across the 2. Bundesliga and German Cup as the club secured promotion.
Como, then newly promoted themselves, signed him permanently on the back of that form, and Van der Brempt went on to make 43 appearances over two seasons in Lombardy, contributing to the club's historic first-ever qualification for the Champions League last term.
A Belgium youth international from Under-15 level through to Under-21, where he won 15 caps and scored once, Van der Brempt now joins a Sassuolo side looking to solidify their defensive options.
Como confirmed the move in a brief statement wishing him well: "The whole club wishes Ignace all the best for the rest of the season," while Sassuolo welcomed their new arrival, noting his versatility and experience across four different European leagues as key factors in the decision to sign him.
The move brings to an end a productive two-year spell in Lombardy, during which Van der Brempt established himself as a regular contributor to Como's remarkable rise from newly promoted side to Champions League qualifiers.
His departure continues a busy summer of squad turnover at Como, who have been active on both sides of the market as the club prepares for its first-ever European campaign, while Sassuolo add a proven, well-travelled defender with senior experience in Belgium, Austria, Germany and Italy to bolster their squad in their second season back in Serie A.
