Romano reported on his YouTube channel that the deal should now be considered off.
"The Luis Henrique-Roma operation should be considered as having fallen through. There's no longer any direct contact. It was never close or nearing completion, an agreement with the player over his contract was missing.
"As of this evening, Luis Henrique's camp and Roma have reached a point. As of today, the deal is off."
The collapse leaves the Brazilian winger's future at Inter unresolved for now, with no obvious alternative destination immediately apparent following the breakdown in talks with AS Roma.
Elsewhere at Inter Milan, Jürgen Klinsmann used an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport to offer a detailed assessment of Esposito's development, drawing comparisons to Erling Haaland's own rapid rise.
"He still has a lot of room to grow. And you grow with minutes, with time on the pitch, carving out whatever space you can. I'm delighted he's getting that space right now. Speaking as a former forward, you grow by putting the ball in the net, you mature with time and with numbers.
"Young players need to play, they need the chance to make mistakes too, because you become great by making mistakes as well. It's also a question of culture, of philosophy, and in Italy you're a little behind on that front."
Klinsmann said Italian football as a whole was too cautious with its young talent.
"Unfortunately you give too little time to young players in general. Thank goodness Pio is an exception, people see that when you put him on the pitch he does well. Haaland was already a starter at 17 or 18. Esposito reminds me a bit of that."
Asked about the striker's specific qualities, the German elaborated further.
"He's good with both feet, in his positioning in the box and also in his link-up play with team-mates. He distributes the ball left and right, that's part of the game, and then he scores. Pio is a classic number nine. Forwards are always measured by numbers, by goals, throughout their entire careers. For a number nine, only scoring matters.
"When your career ends, people always ask how many goals you scored. We centre-forwards live for goals, for our whole lives. Even today, when I play with the over-55s, 11-a-side, I just want to score."
Esposito scored, assisted twice and produced a string of standout displays in Inter's 4-1 opening-day win over Monza, form that has already prompted talk of a new contract at San Siro through 2031.
