La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that AS Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini views Greenwood as an ideal fit for his attacking setup and wants to pair him with Donyell Malen, 27, to form their first-choice forward line next season.
Greenwood has scored 25 goals and contributed 10 assists across 42 appearances for Marseille this campaign, taking his total to 47 goals and 16 assists in 79 matches since joining from Manchester United in July 2024. Marseille have set an asking price of around 50 million euros.
Roma are prepared to meet that figure by selling players no longer considered part of their plans. La Gazzetta identifies midfielder Manu Koné and forward Matías Soulé as candidates to fund the deal.
Juventus remain the other main party in contention. The Bianconeri have tracked Greenwood for two seasons and are building a transfer strategy around the departure of Francisco Conceição, who has attracted Premier League interest. A Conceição sale, potentially worth around 50 million euros, would largely finance a Greenwood arrival.
Marseille's willingness to sell is directly linked to their Champions League situation. The club currently sit sixth in Ligue 1 with two games remaining, leaving qualification in significant doubt. Without European revenue at the highest level, the economics of retaining their highest-value asset shift considerably.
A return to the Premier League is not being considered. Manchester United, who sold Greenwood to Marseille, retain a substantial sell-on clause in the deal and would benefit financially from any future transfer.
