Argentine journalist Hernán Castillo reported this week that the situation around Subiabre is accelerating, with River Plate having given the green light to a sale provided the right offer arrives. The club's coaching staff had initially wanted to retain the player but have accepted that the volume and quality of European interest makes departure likely.
"River is going to have a strong market in the middle of the year. It is very difficult for them to keep Subiabre — he has too much interest already. I know that Tottenham, Chelsea, Villarreal and Lazio are making constant enquiries. And now Tottenham are very strong."
Subiabre is represented by Claudio Caniggia — the Argentine football great — who is pushing for a move to Europe as soon as possible and is said to be in direct contact with multiple clubs.
Subiabre made his first-team debut at River Plate in 2024 and has accumulated 35 appearances, registering three goals and three assists. The raw numbers are modest, but his profile has attracted significant attention — a right-sided winger capable of operating on either flank, with pace, unpredictability and the technical ability to take defenders on in tight spaces.
Tottenham are considered the frontrunners at this stage, with a fee of around €14million understood to be their working figure. Chelsea have also made formal enquiries, though their attacking positions are already crowded following the arrivals of Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens last summer. River Plate's financial position — strengthened by Franco Mastantuono's move to Real Madrid and a sell-on clause from Enzo Fernández's Chelsea deal — means they are not desperate to sell at a discount. The €10-15million range reflects that confidence.
