Nike's 15-year partnership with Kylian Mbappe has come to an end, with the France captain unveiled as an ambassador for Swiss running brand On.

The move represents a significant coup for On, the running shoe company known for its distinctive "CloudTec" sole design, which also recently secured Thierry Henry as its director of football.

On has long sponsored tennis legend Roger Federer, but Mbappé's arrival marks its most high-profile step into football. Announcing the partnership on social media, Mbappé wrote: "I still dream of playing football.

"That might surprise you, coming from someone who plays for a living. But it's true. I still dream of playing with my friends. Playing until sundown. Until dinner. Playing just because it was a game, long before it could become a career... Now I find myself surrounded by innovators who dream the same things I do.

"Of bringing the foot as close as possible to the ball. Of bringing people as close as possible to the game. Of bringing the world as close as possible to the game."

Mbappé will help develop football-specific footwear and apparel for the brand, though financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The partnership will begin with the launch of a boot built on On's "LightSpray" technology, developed since 2024, which allows the shoe to be assembled without glue.

The design is notable for its environmental credentials — using less material and generating less waste — as well as its lightness, though no footwear or apparel from the partnership is expected to go on sale before 2027.

Mbappé and Henry join Barcelona midfielder Sydney Schertenleib, who has been under contract with the Swiss brand since December, as the public faces of On's push into football.

The signing marks a striking departure from Nike, which had sponsored Mbappé since he first emerged as a teenage prodigy at Monaco, and signals a broader shift in the sportswear market as challenger brands look to break the traditional duopoly at the top end of football sponsorship.
